The Chieftains play Barretstown

ScreenHunter_150A very worthy fundraising concert for the Barretstown charity (“rebuilding lives affected by childhood cancer”) is to take place on Tuesday November 24th coming at Barretstown Castle near Ballymore Eustace, headlined by The Chieftains and supported by local band, Arc.

Tickets are only €40 for a night of world-class music & entertainment, starting at 7.30 pm and including wine reception and post-concert nibblies.

Man of the House Session Regular session hosted by local banjo player Tom Moran with special guests Seán Óg McKenna and Claire Carey. Admission – free. The Poitín Stil, Rathcoole.

Recital Local musicians and guests from the festival’s schedule will perform a lunchtime recital for members of the Four Districts Day Care Centre in Rathcoole. Four Districts Day Care Centre, Rathcoole.

Official Opening Recital The Des Carty Sessions 2009 will be opened by Martin Mansergh, TD, Minister for State at the Department of Arts, Sport & Tourism. Music from Kathleen Loughnane (harp), Alec Finn (tenor guitar, bouzouki) & Sean Garvey (voice, guitar).

Friday 23rd October, 8pm

A celebration of the life & music of Pat Cullen Pat Cullen lived in the Rathcoole/Tallaght area all his life and was an enthusiastic supporter of the traditional music scene in the area. He participated as a singer, mandolin player, percussionist and, bagpiper. Friends and family celebrate his contribution to traditional arts in the area. Joining us to sing a few songs in Pat’s honour will be Armagh singer Sean Mone. Admission – free. Saggart Heritage & Arts Centre.

Céilí The Glenside Ceili Band provide the music for an afternoon of set dancing organised by the St Mary’s Set Dancers. St Mary’s GAA Club, Pairc Mhuire, Saggart.

Ballymore Eustace Singing Festival this weekend

This is the 8th Ballymore Eustace Singing Festival. It has become a calendar event for singers from all over Ireland as well as Britain, France Scotland and Wales.

This year, among others, the festival will feature:

Rosie Stewart (Traditional Singer of the year TnaG 2004 will host a session and launch her new CD)
Ron Kavana
Jerry O’Reilly
Barry Gleeson
Dick Hogan

These will be joined by a host of other singers, from the Goilin Singers, the Nenagh Singers Circle to well known singers from the Kildare and Wicklow area.
