Re-launch of the Traditional Harcourt Sessions

At the Harcourt Hotel this evening, “Donegal Person of The Year”  Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh (Altan) re-launches The Traditional Harcourt Sessions.

A reception will be followed by a session at  9pm featuring Seamus Begley and Tim Edey who will be joined over the course of the evening by many special guests and a few surprises are in store.

Once the home of George Bernard Shaw, the Harcourt Hotel introduced the Harcourt Sessions back in late 80’s  featuring  traditional music from the 32 counties as well as visiting international musicians and singers.

Many international stars attended the Sessions through the years, including people like Brad Pitt, Mel Gibson, John Hurt, Angelica Houston, Aidan Quinn, Stephen Rae, Brendan Gleeson, Kris Kristofferson, Bryan Adams.

Following the re-launch, the Sessions will take place every monday night, featuring bands like, Danu, Slide, Guidewires.  Tribute nights to different instruments are also part of the Sessions coming up….
These Session Concerts will be featured every Second Monday and the less formal Session on alternative Mondays with musicans and singers invited to come along and join in.

An evening featuring  previous winners of Harcourt Young Traditional Musician of Year – Eamonn De Barra and Dezi Donnelly – will be announced shortly.

Merchant group Beannchor plans traditional music centre

The group behind the Merchant Hotel in Belfast has won planning approval for a landmark traditional music centre in the city’s Cathedral Quarter. The Beannchor Group wants to convert a 19th century warehouse into a facility including a school of music, tuition rooms as well as a pub and dining area. It is understood the group wants a link up with a traditional music school.

Beannchor managing director Bill Wolsey said he was “delighted” that the plan was going ahead. (BBC) >>>
