Another line-up of our dreams, calling themselves, The Listeners, has just been announced on the Music Network site >>> “Emer Mayock and Donal Siggins met in Dublin in the1990s amidst the busy music session scene in the city at that time. They have played music together since then, recording and touring extensively in Ireland and abroad.

After meeting fiddle player Steve Larkin in the mid-90s, their shared interest in repertoire from distinct regions and their enthusiasm for newly composed material signaled a musical connection which has since developed between the three musicians.

They have now put together a group with singer & songwriter Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola whose deeply rooted sean-nós singing style of Inis Oírr is counterbalanced by her innovative approach to Irish music.”

Apart from their forthcoming appearance at Love:Live Music in the Sugar Club on the 8th of April, so far the only other date listed for them on Music Network is:

Things to be thankful for in 2011: Emer Mayock’s plans

The multi-instrumentalist, composer and fabulous flute player from the County of Mayo, Emer Mayock, has a busy year ahead, filled with lots of great stuff for us to look forward to:

She will release a CD with piper Mick O’Brien and fiddle player Aoife Ni Bhriain exploring music from the Goodman Manuscripts.

The band Tarab (Emer, Kate Ellis, Francesco Turrisi, Robbie Harris and Nick Roth) will release it’s debut recording.

Emer will work with Rough Magic Theatre in a new production of Ibsen’s ‘Peer Gynt’.

She will perform in Ireland and abroad with a new ensemble she has put together with Lasairfhiona Ni Chonaola, Donal Siggins and Steve Larkin.

And she will travel to Nova Scotia in July to perform at the Boxwood festival.

Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola @ The Cobblestone

17 September · 19:00 – 23:00

Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola has been praised by Hot Press for her ‘cool, airy voice and effortless style’. Reviewing his début album The Love Token, Seán Laffey praised MacDara’s ‘command of the text of the songs and his ability to give them life within what is essentially a non-traditional format. Poet and novelist Dara Ó Conaola’s extraordinary work includes the bilingual fantasy classic Misiún ar Muir/Sea Mission, Night Ructions (launched at the Hay-on Wye festival, 1992), Mo Chathair Ghríobháin, An Gaiscíoch Beag and Cor in Aghaidh an Chaim, works in which the oral tradition is reworked in startling modern language. Dara Beag is the much-loved ‘people’s poet’ of Inis Meáin, and is the author of Cloch na bhFaoileán.
