Téada @ The Seamus Ennis Cultural Centre

Friday January 21st at 8:30 PM @ Séamus Ennis Centre

Téada released a long awaited fourth album – Ceol & Cuimhne / Music & Memory in 2010 on the Gael Linn label, described by The Irish Echo’s Earle Hitchner as “the best album of Irish instrumental music I’ve heard so far this year”. 2011 will see the Téada mark its’ 10th anniversary with a busy season of touring and other special projects.

Founded by Sligo fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada, Téada first came together in 2001 to make an appearance on the innovative Irish television series ‘Flosc’. With engaging textural arrangements, Téada, meaning “strings” in the Irish language revels in the vibrant traditional music of Ireland. Deftly playing up its structural intricacies while preserving the contagious energy inherent in the repertoire, the group strives to capture a sense of the rawness and individuality of the solo artist, within a modern group context.

Seating is limited. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Irish Christmas in America show

Celebrating its sixth year, the holiday show “Irish Christmas in America” tours throughout the USA with some of Ireland’s top traditional artists, including singer & accordion-player Séamus Begley, Gráinne, Tommy Martin, Brian Cunningham. An accompanying CD, “Irish Christmas in America,” is also now available.

Produced by Oisín Mac Diarmada of award-winning lrish group Téada, the atmospheric Irish Christmas in America show once again features top Irish in the 2010 touring line-up.

The holiday show was first conceived in 2005 by Oisin Mac Diarmada of Téada. Past tours have featured guest vocalists such as Karan Casey, Cara Dillon, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Cathie Ryan and Michael Londra. Mac Diarmada enthuses about the program as a way to bring traditional and often unknown Irish customs to the States. “One of the most heartfelt themes of Irish Christmas is emigration,” says Mac Diarmada. “Music was a way that people stayed close to home.”

Performance Venues 2005-2009 include
* Cerritos Performing Arts Center Los Angeles CA * The Dana Center Manchester NH * National Geographic Live! (5th consecutive year) Washington DC * Fox Theater, Tucson AZ * The Egg Albany NY * Annenberg Center Philadelphia PA * Kimo Theater, Albuquerque NM

Téada @ Music on the Hill

Music on the hill 025

Delighted to have the chance to see Téada live, finally, and locally, at the first Music on the Hill, organised my Maryann Ryan in Kilteel on Saturday. I’d say it was the smallest stage Téada have been on in a while, but they managed to squeeze out a great show, and hung around and mingled a bit both before & afterwards in the Kilteel Inn and out back. They are off on another US tour (minus Paul Finn, pictured below in his solo set, who has just got married and who has the day job to attend to). And it’s no wonder they are so popular there and here as they clearly put in a lot of quality work on getting the balance right in their act – tune choices, arrangements, stage dynamics etc. And it goes without saying that they are superb musicians each and every one. I am glad I hadn’t yet purchased their new CD, Ceol & Cuimhne, as I was able to buy it direct off them afterwards … and get the autographs and have a chat!

A batch of other pics from the night (minus the morning, by which time I was in no shape to be taking photographs not to mention the shape the prospective subjects of the photographs were in) are here >>
